Company History

Teva Pharmaceuticals USA was founded in 1945 as Lemmon Pharmacal Company. In 1991, the company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. Below is a timeline of events that have contributed to Teva USA becoming a leading generic pharmaceutical company.

2008	On December 23, 2008, Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc. was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., establishing a stronger, more competitive company with increased scale and an expanded geographic footprint with significant potential for growth. Read additional information.
2006	On January 26, 2006, Ivax Corporation was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., creating one of the most dynamic companies in the pharmaceutical industry. Read additional information.
2004	On January 22, 2004, Sicor became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Teva. This acquisition brings together two premier generic pharmaceutical companies, combining Teva's successful oral dose generic drugs franchise with Sicor's leading generic injectable business. In addition, both the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) businesses and Sicor's biogenerics capabilities will enhance and expand the combined company's product offerings. (Note: "Sicor" was renamed "Teva Parenteral Medicines, Inc." in 2007.)
2003	Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. enters into a strategic collaboration with Andrx Corporation to develop and market generic oral contraceptive pharmaceutical products.
2003	Teva enters into an exclusivity transfer agreement with Andrx Corporation and Impax Laboratories, Inc. pertaining to the pending ANDAs for bioequivalent versions of Wellbutrin® SR and Zyban® (Bupropion Hydrochloride) 100 mg and 150 mg Extended Release Tablets.
2001	Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. enters into a strategic alliance agreement with Impax Laboratories, Inc. for controlled release generic pharmaceutical products.
2000	Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. acquires Novopharm Ltd., Canada's second largest generic drug company with operations in the United States and Hungary.
1999	Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. acquires Copley Pharmaceutical, Inc.
1999	Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. enters into a strategic alliance with Bio-Technology General Corp. for the development and global commercialization of generic recombinant therapeutic products.
1996	Lemmon Company merges with Biocraft Laboratories and changes its name to Teva Pharmaceuticals USA (Teva USA).
1990	Gate Pharmaceuticals (now called Teva Biologics and Specialty Products) was created as a division of Teva Pharmaceuticals USA to market innovative pharmaceutical products in the United States.
